Peter Hirst is a chartered accountant and became the financial director of LCF&A when Paul Caddick took over the business in 1996. The company was in very poor health, however, with funds injected from Caddick Group resources, the immediate threat of bankruptcy was staved off. After the takeover the company continued to be loss making.
However, the company returned to annual profitability and today's Balance Sheet is strong. The multi-functional nature of the business necessitates comprehensive financial systems, strong budgetary control and reporting disciplines which are fundamental to any properly managed business.
Peter is responsible for the finances of Caddick Group plc which is a 50 company group, with construction and property development being the main activities other than the ownership of Leeds CF&A Co Ltd.
Peter has been a fan for over 50 years and with numerous memories of great players and matches.
On the playing front, his body has finally succumbed to wear and tear after playing hooker for 16 seasons at Headingley RUFC at all levels and over 20 years veterans rugby with Old Brodlians who are based at Hipperholme. Peter still enjoys the annual veterans tour but will withstand any pleadings for further appearances.
Peter is a great believer that rugby of both codes breeds a committed team player which extends to other facets of life. Friendships are forged on and off the field and the common bond is everlasting. Peter maintains his fitness with regular gym visits and occasional half marathons.
Peter is married to Pat, and the couple have two daughters, Beverley and Rachel, and grandchildren Rebecca and Charlie. Beverley, who is a qualifies dentist has recently emigrated to Australia to join a number of her peers from University.
