Australian Lachie Miller signed a three-year deal with the Rhinos from NRL side Newcastle Knights ahead of 2024.
An explosive first campaign in blue and amber saw Miller play 25 games in all competitions at full back and score seven tries (four of which came in a five match spell). He also finished the year with the most tackle breaks in the Super League competition, plus he ranked third in total carries too to cap off a good first year at the club.
Miller grew up playing Rugby League in his hometown of Coffs Harbour for the Comets, but forged a career in Rugby Union Sevens at the age of 22. Earning selection for Australia's World Sevens side, he travelled over the world including Tokyo where he helped his country to the quarter-finals of the 2020 Olympics. In total, he scored 17 tries in 50 Sevens games before returning to Australia and Rugby League.
Signing for NSW Cup side Newtown Jets, Miller's two tries and nine goals in 16 games earned him a shot in the NRL with Cronulla Sharks and he marked his debut with a try against Gold Coast Titans. He was brought back from the Jets towards the end of the season too as the Sharks made a run for the Finals and he helped Craig Fitzgibbon's side to wins against the Dragons, Tigers, Sea Eagles, Bulldogs and Knights, but the Sharks couldn't overcome South Sydney in the semi finals. At the end of the season, he was awarded the Steve Rogers Award for the Sharks Rookie of the Year.
2023 saw Miller take up a contract with Newcastle, where he has featured in both the NRL and NSW Cup competitions. Debuting in round one against the Warriors at full back, he featured in all of the first ten games of the NRL season for the Knights, before spending matches back in the NSW Cup to become the Knights Reserves' top points scorer after only eight games. He ended his time at the club with three goals in a 32-12 win over St George Illawarra in Round 27 before making the move to Headingley ahead of 2024.
