Debut: Vs Salford Red Devils (H) 16/02/2024
Honours:
Leeds Rhinos confirmed the signing of Australian Matt Frawley from NRL side Canberra Raiders ahead of the 2024 season as the half-back signed a two-year contract.
The move saw Frawley return to Super League after playing a season with Huddersfield Giants in 2019 when he was just 24 years old. During his twelve-month stint under Simon Woolford, the half back only missed eight games in a tough season at the John Smith's Stadium and returned back to Australia at the end of the campaign.
On his return to the competition, Frawley only missed two games for the Rhinos as he formed a partnership with new signings Brodie Croft, Lachie Miller and Andy Ackers. His first try came in a 22-16 comeback win against Leigh on the road, plus he was also a try scorer in wins over Castleford, Leigh, Huddersfield and Catalans as he finished the year with six tries to his name.
Born in Canberra, Frawley played representative football for the Raiders but got his break in the NRL with Canterbury Bulldogs in 2017. Over two seasons, he played 31 games (17 alongside Rhino Rhyse Martin) and scored six tries to help the club to 11th and 12th place finishes, before signing with the Giants for 2019. He came full circle back to the Raiders in 2020 and provided support in the halves with 22 NRL appearances across four seasons, as well as 34 appearances for the Raiders Reserves team in the NSW Cup. The 2023 season in particular saw Frawley brought into the team for a late Finals surge as he partnered Jamal Fogarty for the Raiders' last four games. That run included the Elimination Final which the Raiders lost by two points to Newcastle Knights; Frawley scored in the defeat.
