Leeds Rhinos agreed a full-time contract with young forward Leon Ruan from League One side Doncaster ahead of the 2023 season.
Ruan had been training with the Rhinos first team squad during 2022, after impressing Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith with his performances for the Dons. Playing in the second row, he helped Richard Horne’s side reach the League One Play Off Final with 20 appearances and six tries in his sole season at the club.
He moved to South Yorkshire in 2022 having developed through the Wakefield Trinity academy system but is originally from Morley and played his junior rugby at Batley Boys. He capped a fine season with a try in Doncaster’s impressive 52-20 win over Rochdale to book their place in the Play Off Final. Ruan’s form for Doncaster saw him also nominated for the Betfred League One Young Player of the Year award too.
Ruan's debut Super League season saw the forward score on his first Rhinos outing against Wakefield and he went on to come off the bench four more times. The forward also featured seven times for the Rhinos Reserves team under Tony Smith as well as two times on loan with Championship side Bradford Bulls.
