Job Opportunity: First Team Chef
Leeds Rhinos are recruiting for a part-time Chef to work with their Men’s first team.
Location: Bartercard Training Complex, Leeds
Hours: 32 hours per week (flexible working pattern)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications
Reports To: Rugby General Manager (day-to-day), with overall accountability to the Sporting Director
About the Role
Leeds Rhinos are seeking an experienced Chef to join the Rugby Department and support the nutritional needs of our elite athletes, primarily within the Men’s First Team programme.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, performance-focused food provision, ensuring players and staff receive nutritious meals that support training, recovery, and performance. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a professional sporting environment and play a key role in supporting one of rugby league’s leading clubs.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a professional chef.
- Ability to provide a minimum of six freshly prepared meals per week, tailored to the needs of the rugby department.
- Ability to prepare food provisions for away fixtures and travel requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Competent IT and computer skills.
- A flexible and professional approach to working within an elite sporting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation & Delivery
- Prepare and deliver high-quality, nutritious meals for players and staff.
- Plan menus that support athletic performance, recovery, and wellbeing.
- Ensure food provision consistently meets the nutritional and operational needs of the Rugby Department.
- Prepare food and catering requirements for away fixtures and travel schedules.
Kitchen Operations
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and oversee the ordering of food and kitchen supplies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with approved suppliers and vendors.
- Manage deliveries and ensure stock is stored correctly and safely.
- Ensure the kitchen and dining facilities are fully equipped and operational at all times.
Quality, Compliance & Hygiene
- Maintain exceptional standards of food quality, presentation, and service.
- Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards are met and consistently exceeded.
- Keep the kitchen, dining areas, equipment, and appliances clean, organised, and well maintained.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food preparation and hygiene regulations.
Administration & Communication
- Manage kitchen budgets and expenditure efficiently, maintaining accurate records.
- Liaise regularly with coaching staff, performance staff, and the Rugby General Manager to ensure food provision aligns with departmental requirements.
- Contribute to a positive and professional working environment across the club.
Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients, and best practices.
- Strong technical cooking skills with the ability to prepare meals to a consistently high standard.
- Creativity and innovation in menu planning and meal preparation.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and time-management skills.
- Relevant food hygiene and food preparation qualifications.
- Desirable to have a Full, clean UK driving licence.
Additional Information
This role is contracted at 32 hours per week. Due to the nature of professional sport, flexibility is essential, and the successful candidate may be required to work evenings, weekends, and on matchdays as required.
