Gannon returns home to Rhinos in 2027

Leeds Rhinos have been given a major boost with the signing of Morgan Gannon, 22, that will see the forward rejoin the club from the 2027 Betfred Super League on a three year contract.

The Rhinos moved clear at the top of the Betfred Super League season with victory at Warrington Wolves on Thursday night and have now continued plans for next season and beyond.

Gannon made his debut for the Rhinos whilst still a teenager back in April 2021 and went on to make 73 appearances for the club before leaving at the end of the 2025 season to join NRL side New Zealand Warriors for this season.

Commenting on the signing Sporting Director Ian Blease said, “We are delighted to be bringing Morgan back home to the Rhinos. We were clear when he left that we had worked hard to persuade him to stay at AMT Headingley and we are looking forward to having him back in 2027. I would like to thank the New Zealand Warriors for the way they have handled the situation and I am sure Morgan will return having developed even more from his time with the Warriors.”

Head Coach Brad Arthur added, “Morgan is an outstanding young man who has shown a great deal of maturity already in his young career. The fact that he is one of our own, having come through our development pathway and knows our club, makes this a perfect fit for all of us. I know Morgan will be keen to pick up where he left off when he starts pre-season with us and it will be good to have him back around the boys.”

Gannon, who joined the Rhinos from Halifax-community club Siddal as a junior, added, “I am looking forward to being back at the Rhinos in 2027. I am grateful for the opportunity I have had with the Warriors this year and I am looking forward to helping the squad for the remainder of this season. I know the Rhinos are going well this season and I wish them all the best for the rest of this campaign.”

Leeds Rhinos are back in action on Friday when they take on World Club Champions Hull KR in another huge battle in the Betfred Super League play off race. The Rhinos are expecting their biggest crowd of the season at AMT Headingley with tickets available now at tickets.therhinos.co.uk. This will be the club’s annual MND Awareness Game, always one of the highlights of the season for the Rhinos.
