Lodge says Rhinos short term move is great for both

New Leeds Rhinos signing Matt Lodge has revealed why he was happy to move to the other side of the world until the end of the season and says it is a win-win situation for him and the club. 

The Rhinos announced the capture of Lodge on Thursday morning ahead of tonight's clash with Leigh Leopards at AMT Headingley and he is set to arrive in the UK at the start of next week, subject to visa approval. He has played 15 games for North Queensland Cowboys this season in the NRL but the chance to come to Leeds and Super League was something he wanted to do. 

He revealed, "It was a tough decision to leave North Queensland, I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Cowboys this year and have played most of the season. I’m grateful that they have let me pursue this opportunity in good faith.

"I’ve always had the urge to test my self and experience the Super League. Every one will always have their opinion on my career. But I’ve worked hard and earned everything. And it will be no different at Leeds.

"I've known Brad for a while and we have nearly linked up a few times over the years. I know what he’s about. He’s honest, a straight shooter and works hard. He’s a great coach, old school a-bit like me. I’m leaving the family at home and coming to do everything in my power to help him and the group achieve success.

"That’s why I've decided to just do a 8 week deal at this stage. Because I want to come over and prove myself and earn the respect of my team mates, the competition and its fans. Which I’ve always done. I have my four young boys at home and my partner is currently pregnant so they are going to remain in Australia. And I will return straight after the season hopefully in 8 weeks to be here for the birth. And we will see what the future holds from there," added Lodge.
