Miller commits future to Rhinos

Super League Man of Steel nominee Lachie Miller has agreed a contract extension clause that will see the Australian remain at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2028 season.

Miller was this week named in the three-man shortlist for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel award and the club have now activated the extension in his contract, which he initially signed last year. 

Since arriving at AMT Headingley, Miller has quickly established himself as an important member of Brad Arthur’s squad, bringing pace, attacking threat and plenty of energy to the Rhinos backline.

The Australian has impressed with his ability to break the line and create opportunities, while his work rate and commitment have made him an integral part of the team.

Miller is delighted to have his future settled having made Leeds his home for his family, his wife having established a successful Reformer Pilates studio in the city. The full back, who played Sevens for Australia at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury for the remainder of this season. 

Lachie Miller commented, “I’m really happy to have agreed the extension and to know that I’ll be staying at Leeds through to at least the end of 2028.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here. The club has made me feel very welcome and there’s a great group of players and staff who are all working towards the same goal.

“The support from the Rhinos fans has been unreal and playing at AMT Headingley is something I’ve really enjoyed. I’m looking forward to spending the next few years here and hopefully we can give the fans plenty to be excited about.

“I’m gutted not to be out there with the boys on Friday for a huge night for the boys but I will be there cheering them on and doing everything I can to support them. I think Fergie McCormack is a great prospect and I am excited to see him in action, having worked with him closely, I am confident he with thrive in a game like this.”

Head Coach Brad Arthur was pleased to secure Miller’s long-term future at the Rhinos. He added, “Lachie is an important part of our squad and we’re really pleased that he’ll be staying at Leeds until at least the end of 2028.

“He brings a lot of energy to the team and he’s got genuine attacking ability. He can create something from nothing, but his effort and work rate are just as important to us.

“I think he would be the first to say that he is constantly learning and finding ways to improve his game and that is a brilliant attitude to have from one of our senior players.”

Sporting Director Ian Blease believes Miller's extension is another important piece of the club's long-term squad planning. Ian Blease added, “We’re delighted to have Lachie committed to the Rhinos until at least the end of 2028.

“When Lachie first arrived, he was a player with plenty of ability and an exciting skill set, but he has also shown the character and attitude we want within our squad.

“Lachie is an important part of our plans moving forward and securing his future is another positive step as we continue to build a squad that can compete consistently at the top end of the Betfred Super League.”
