After being scouted for the Rhinos Scholarship from Dewsbury Celtic, Harley Thomas boasts a CV of skills and experience that has seen him play every position across the back line during his time at Leeds.

Joining the club ahead of the 2022 season at the age of 14, he missed a total of three games over his two years under Mark Butterill and the Scholarship staff. Featuring as a centre in four of six games in his debut campaign, he finished as the side’s top points scorer a year later, scoring six tries and 15 goals in five games as the Under-16s won all but one game in 2023.

As one of a record 15 players who moved up to the Under-18s Academy competition at the end of that season, Thomas took the opportunity with both hands as he played all 12 games under Academy head coach Tony Smith between the full-back and centre positions. He was also a points scorer in every game with 46 goals across the season, before finishing the 2025 season with seven tries and 44 goals in 11 games. Notably he helped the young Rhinos to a semi-final win over St Helens and also featured in the Grand Final against Warrington. 

2025 also presented opportunities in the Reserves for the first time in the utility back’s career, and he only missed two games as the side finished top of the league and featured at full back in the 8-0 Grand Final win at AMT Headingley. Overall, he enjoyed a stellar season with six tries and 21 goals, before advancing again during his second full season in the competition in 2026. A mainstay in the halves mainly alongside Harry Smith, Thomas helped inspire a mid-season turnaround to help the Rhinos into the top six and eventually a finish in the semi finals. He only missed one game and recorded six tries and 55 goals. His performances caught the attention of head coach Brad Arthur, who kept the Celtic youngster around his squad for the entire season.
