Leeds Rhinos signed forward Toby Warren on a four year contract to keep him at Headingley until at least the end of the 2026 season after the Rhinos agreed a deal with York Knights to sign the Yorkshire Academy player.
Warren, a footballer until his mid-teens, was a latecomer to the sport at 14 and joined York Knights Foundation’s Excel player development programme after impressing with New Earswick All Blacks and Heworth.
After agreeing community dual-registration terms ahead of the 2021 season, Warren signed his first contract with the Knights that also allowed him to spend time with the Rhinos in the 2021 and 2022 seasons playing in the Academy and Reserves. He was awarded the squad number 27 for his debut season at the club and played most of 2023 under Tony Smith in the Reserves, scoring once in seven appearances. Towards the end of the campaign, he was loaned back to York, where he featured three times off the bench against Toulouse, Widnes and Newcastle.
2024 saw Warren play Reserves for the Rhinos, alongside a short term spell at Featherstone Rovers during which he played twice. For the Reserves, he scored one try in seven games.
As well as his training and playing commitments with the Rhinos, Warren will also begin his Sport and Business Management Degree at Leeds Beckett University.
